Brandon Days 7, 8 and 9 in Hawaii

Day 7 April 25, 2008

Today we went to Hawaiian Village Coffee to send my update, and we met a very nice lady. Her name is Toni and she is very friendly. I had a chocolate brownie and a tall glass of cold milk. It was very refreshing.

We then went to the Maui Ocean Centre and saw sharks. We also saw manta rays and many other sea creatures, like "jellies". They were very beautiful and graceful to watch. The aquarium had a coloured light shining on them so they looked like the colour of the light. We also saw sea turtles in captivity. We went through an acrylic tunnel, where the fish actually swim over and around us. It was so cool! We also had lunch at the Maui Ocean Centre at a place called, "Seascape". I had a cheeseburger and fries, and I couldn't finish it. Everything in Hawaii is big! The kids menu is like the adult portions in Canada. Also the beef tastes really good here.

Later we drove to Lahaina, where Mom and my sister, went souvenir shopping. I had ice cream from Hagen Daaz, the world's best and one of the most expensive! However, Dippin' Dots, is the most expensive because of the dots. After that we went to the Pearl Factory to get an oyster. I picked one and the guy opened it. There was a pearl in it and had a "pearl ceremony". It was expensive. I think that was pretty cool, even though it might be fake!

My Hawaiian word for today is "Kane", which means "man", which I see every time that I need to use the Men's washroom!

Aloha and Mahalo!

Day 8 April 26, 2008

We got up early this morning and drove to Maalea Harbour to meet the boat called The Pride of Maui. Our first destination was Molikini to do some snorkeling. On our way it included a continental breakfast of fresh fruit, muffins and juice. After breakfast, we were fitted for fins, snokels and masks. Before going into the water, we had to defog our masks. The water was crystal blue and calm. When we snorkeled, me and Dad, found Milletseed Butterfly fish. I don't know if I found surgeon fish, but I think I saw it. We saw lots of Sea Urchins and tonnes of Brain Coral. Then we got back on the boat and headed to turtle lagoon. We had, yet another, BBQ cheese burger, but this time I finished it. I asked if I could have another one, but my sister said, "No", even though, they said that we could have seconds. We saw tonnes of turtles and they were so cute, when they surfaced. They normally can stay underwater for 20 minutes, but the longest recorded time for a sea turtle is 2 hours.

We had a great time!

My Hawaiian word for today is "A'a". It is a type of rough lava, that still has chunks of rocks in it.

Day 9 April 27, 2008

Today, we had to get up at 2:30 a.m. to watch the sunrise on Haleakala Crater. It has a whopping 10,000 foot elevation. I think that I got altitude sickness. I felt dizzy and sick. My Mom felt like barfing! When we first arrived, it was so cold, that I nearly froze my butt off, but it was very beautiful watching the sun rise over the clouds. I found out how to warm my hands. I went to the washroom and used the hand dryer. The road down from Haleakela was very winding, but I fell asleep. We had brunch at Kala Lodge. I had the "Mountain" breakfast, the biggest breakfast there was, and I finished everything!

Now, I am here, at the Hawaiian Village.

Maybe there will be more to come!

My Hawaiian word for today is "Pahoehoe", which is another type of lava, which is smooth.

Aloha and Mahalo!
