Brandon Days 7, 8 and 9 in Hawaii

Day 7 April 25, 2008

Today we went to Hawaiian Village Coffee to send my update, and we met a very nice lady. Her name is Toni and she is very friendly. I had a chocolate brownie and a tall glass of cold milk. It was very refreshing.

We then went to the Maui Ocean Centre and saw sharks. We also saw manta rays and many other sea creatures, like "jellies". They were very beautiful and graceful to watch. The aquarium had a coloured light shining on them so they looked like the colour of the light. We also saw sea turtles in captivity. We went through an acrylic tunnel, where the fish actually swim over and around us. It was so cool! We also had lunch at the Maui Ocean Centre at a place called, "Seascape". I had a cheeseburger and fries, and I couldn't finish it. Everything in Hawaii is big! The kids menu is like the adult portions in Canada. Also the beef tastes really good here.

Later we drove to Lahaina, where Mom and my sister, went souvenir shopping. I had ice cream from Hagen Daaz, the world's best and one of the most expensive! However, Dippin' Dots, is the most expensive because of the dots. After that we went to the Pearl Factory to get an oyster. I picked one and the guy opened it. There was a pearl in it and had a "pearl ceremony". It was expensive. I think that was pretty cool, even though it might be fake!

My Hawaiian word for today is "Kane", which means "man", which I see every time that I need to use the Men's washroom!

Aloha and Mahalo!

Day 8 April 26, 2008

We got up early this morning and drove to Maalea Harbour to meet the boat called The Pride of Maui. Our first destination was Molikini to do some snorkeling. On our way it included a continental breakfast of fresh fruit, muffins and juice. After breakfast, we were fitted for fins, snokels and masks. Before going into the water, we had to defog our masks. The water was crystal blue and calm. When we snorkeled, me and Dad, found Milletseed Butterfly fish. I don't know if I found surgeon fish, but I think I saw it. We saw lots of Sea Urchins and tonnes of Brain Coral. Then we got back on the boat and headed to turtle lagoon. We had, yet another, BBQ cheese burger, but this time I finished it. I asked if I could have another one, but my sister said, "No", even though, they said that we could have seconds. We saw tonnes of turtles and they were so cute, when they surfaced. They normally can stay underwater for 20 minutes, but the longest recorded time for a sea turtle is 2 hours.

We had a great time!

My Hawaiian word for today is "A'a". It is a type of rough lava, that still has chunks of rocks in it.

Aloha and Mahalo!

Day 9 April 27, 2008

Today, we had to get up at 2:30 a.m. to watch the sunrise on Haleakala Crater. It has a whopping 10,000 foot elevation. I think that I got altitude sickness. I felt dizzy and sick. My Mom felt like barfing! When we first arrived, it was so cold, that I nearly froze my butt off, but it was very beautiful watching the sun rise over the clouds. I found out how to warm my hands. I went to the washroom and used the hand dryer. The road down from Haleakela was very winding, but I fell asleep. We had brunch at Kala Lodge. I had the "Mountain" breakfast, the biggest breakfast there was, and I finished everything!

Now, I am here, at the Hawaiian Village.

Maybe there will be more to come!

My Hawaiian word for today is "Pahoehoe", which is another type of lava, which is smooth.

Aloha and Mahalo!

DAY 5
April 23, 2008

Today, we went to Boss Frog's to rent flippers and snorkels. We drove to Ke'e Beach and we went snorkeling. I saw lots of tropical fish, such as parrot fish, blue-striped snapper, and lots more. I took pictures underwater. It was fun! We also watched hula dancing show in the marketplace, which they have every Wednesday. After supper, we went swimming in the pool in the condo we are staying. I learned that all the coral reefs are alive, even though they look dead. To preserve nature you must be very careful.

DAY 6
April 24, 2008

We arrived in Maui from Kauai at 11 in the morning. We rented a car from Budget Car Rental. We drove to Lahaina, had lunch, and walked around town. I noticed that it is a big city, and there are lots of parking meters, and tourists everywhere, busy place. We did a little bit of shopping, and had dinner at China Boat restaurant. Just between you and me, I did not like the food :-( I ate some of it because I was hungry.

PS. Unfortunately, we cannot send pictures again through email :,-(
APS.Aloha means hello and bye bye

T's Report

The Stay At My Aunts House

I stayed at my Aunt Amanda’s house for 4 long days, I slept in my little cousin’s bedroom. My cousin and I went to the BMX track almost everyday. One day we saw Blake. At the BMX track we also flew Dean’s kite. It was fun, except I hurt myself because the bearing on my bike bent. Blake jumped over Marshall, but was too afraid to hurt his bike. The next day we played basketball with my cousin’s new basketball net.On Saturday we drove out on the west Pavilion road to see where Grandma Martha used to live.We
went shopping for breakfast. Then Marshalls cousin Kendall and her family came over for breakfast. After we ate we played basketball and I fractured my finger. On Monday my mom came home from Alberta. I had a lot of fun staying at my aunt’s house.

Brandon's Hawaii Report

Day 1 (April 19)

We arrived at Honolulu 11:45 Hawaiian time, waited 4 hours, then finally arrived in Kauai. We took the shuttle bus to car rental on way to Outrigger Hotel, Lae Nani We saw lots of palm trees, coconut trees, and wild chickens with lots of chicks and roosters everywhere.

We went to the Coconut Market Place and had dinner at TC's Grill. I had a New York steak with fries. After all that traveling, I was really tired and went right to sleep!

I learned that in Hawaii, to some people, the wild chickens are pests, but no one has the heart or will to kill them, so they run free! At the crack of dawn, they make a lot of noise, cocka doodle dooing!

Day 2 (April 20)

After breakfast, we went swimming at the back of the hotel. First, we went to the enclosed, lava rock pool and we saw tonnes of tropical fish. I think I saw a type of butterfly fish. After, we went to the ocean part and went "current racing". We went to the wave area where the current came across the beach and swept you along by your bottom.

I learned that you can get easily sunburned because Abegail and Dad, got sunburned! So try to take a break and put on plenty of sun screen, at least, every two hours.

Day 3 (April 21)

Today, we went sight seeing to the Waimea Canyon. It was spectacular! I saw red dirt, the kind they used to stain clothing, called the "Red Dirt" Shirt. I have a hat stained by red dirt, if you are not convinced. I also have a picture of me in a big big big Aloha shirt ... I mean really big!!!

I learned that you have to spend your money wisely because you can run out of money fast! So make sure you take your time and shop very carefully and look for the best deals. Since you are on Vacation, you should take your time.

So that's it for now ... Aloha!
